A few uses of 'make'

শেষ পর্যন্ত আসতে পারলে!= You finally made it!

make it = কোনো টার্গেট fulfill করতে পারা / কোনো বিপদ বা সংকট পেরিয়ে destination এ পৌঁছতে পারা।

He couldn’t make it. = He wasn’t successful.= সে এটা করতে পারলো না।

I will make up to you. = আমি তোমাকে পুষিয়ে দেবো। = আমি তোমার ক্ষতিপূরণ করে দেবো। =I will compensate you.

.....For English speaking people.....

You finally made it! (You finally were successful to do/accomplish this!)

make it =being able to fulfill a target = being able to reach a destination after overcoming a lot of hazards

He couldn’t make it. = He wasn’t successful (to accomplish a particular job).

I will make up to you. (= I will compensate you.= I will repay you for whatever losses you incurred because of this.)

….perfectly well ….(বেশ ভালো করেই)

তোমাকে কীভাবে কথা বলাতে হয় তা আমরা বেশ ভালো করেই জানি।=We know perfectly well how to make you speak. (সাধারণত মুভি বা সিনেমাতে এভাবে হুমকি দেয়া হয়)

তুমি বেশ ভালো করেই জানো, এমন পরিস্থিতিতে কী করতে হয়।= You know perfectly well what to do in a situation like this.

Example 1:

We know perfectly well how to make you speak. (We know how to make you speak and we know that perfectly well.) - It's a dialogue from a certain movie.

Example 2:

You know perfectly well what to do in a situation like this. (You know what to do in a situation like this and you know that perfectly well.)

about = regarding =related with (নিয়ে/সংক্রান্ত)

এটা রাজনীতি নিয়ে নয়।= This is not about politics.

এটা টাকার কিছু নয়।= এটা অর্থসংক্রান্ত নয়।= This is not about money.

This is not about politics. = This is not regarding politics. = This is not related with politics.

This is not about money. = This is not regarding money. = This is not related with money.

‘is not’ can be replaced with ‘isn’t’ or ‘ain’t’

..the day after tomorrow & the day before yesterday.. (আগামী/গত) পরশুদিন

the day after tomorrow = আগামী পরশুদিন

the day before yesterday = গত পরশুদিন

Examples:

আগামী পরশুদিন আমরা দেখা করবো। = We’re gonna meet the day after tomorrow.

গত পরশুদিন তাকে সেখানে দেখেছিলাম। = I saw him there the day before yesterday.

.....For English speaking people.....

If today is 6th oct, then 8th oct will be called ‘the day after tomorrow’ and 4th oct was called ‘the day before yesterday’

So, the day after tomorrow = two days later

& the day before yesterday = two days earlier

Examples:

1. We’re gonna meet the day after tomorrow. (We’re gonna meet two days later.)

2. I saw him the day before yesterday. (I saw him two days earlier.)

a lot + adjective(comparative degree)

আমি তোমার চেয়ে অনেক বেশি সুখী। = I am a lot happier than you are.

ব্রক লেসনার জন সিনার চেয়ে অনেক বেশি শক্তিশালী।= Brock Lesnar is a lot stronger than John Cena.

’না’ এর চেয়ে নারীর শক্তি অনেক বেশি।= Women are a lot stronger than ‘no’.

.....For English speaking people.....

1. I am a lot happier than you are. (I am much happier than you.)

2. Brock Lesnar is a lot stronger than John Cena.

(Brock Lesnar is much stronger than John Cena.)

It means that the difference in strength level between Brock Lesnar and John Cena is not mere, it’s huge.

3. Women are a lot stronger than ‘no’. (Women are much stronger than ‘no’.)

privilege = good luck/ great opportunity (সৌভাগ্য )

আপনার সাথে কয়েকটি ছবিতে কাজ করার সৌভাগ্য আমার হয়েছিল।= I had the privilege to work with you in a few films.

আপনার হাতে এ পুরষ্কার তুলে দেয়া আমার সবচেয়ে বড় সৌভাগ্য।=It’s my greatest privilege to present this award to you.

.....For English speaking people.....

1. I had the privilege to work with you in a few films. (I I had the good luck to work with you in a few films. = I was lucky to work with you in a few films. = I had the great opportunity to work with you in a few films.)

2. It’s my privilege to present this award to you. (It’s a good luck for me to present this award to you. = It’s a great opportunity for me to present this award to you.)

A few special uses of ‘get’

তুমি ঠিকই ধরেছো।= তুমি ঠিকই বুঝেছো। = You got it right.

আমি আপনার কথা বুঝতে পারছি না।= I don’t get you.

আমি (সাপোর্ট হিসেবে) তোমার পিছে/সাথে আছি।= I have your back. = I’ve got your back. = I got your back.

ওর কাছে প্রথম কে গিয়েছিল? = Who got to her first?

তুমি ওর সাথে দেখা করার সুযোগ পাচ্ছো।= You get to meet him.

আমি কখনো ওকে দেখার সুযোগ পেলাম না।= I never got to see her.

আমার সামনে থেকে সরো। = Get off my face.

1. You got it right. (You have understood it correctly.)

2. I don’t get you. (I don’t understand what you say.)

3. I have your back. = I’ve got your back. = I got your back. (I am right behind/with you as your physical/emotional/ strategic support.)

4. Who got to her first? (Who went over to her first? = Who went near her first? = Who got in contact with her first?)

5. You get to meet him. (You have an opportunity to meet him.)

6. I never got to see her. (I never had an opportunity to see her.)

7. Get off my face. (Vanish yourself from my sight.)
